It’s love! Simplicity 8084

I know I’ve said this before, but if I could marry a dress, it would be this one.

I love this dress.

I love the fabric, which was from Blackbird fabrics. I also purchased it in the black colour way and initially thought the black was best, but really this is colour is way more awesome. I’m really gravitating towards bricky colours at the moment. I’m also smitten with green and desperately trying to find the right shade of moss green viscose or rayon – let me know if you’ve seen any.

Simplicity 8084, a Mimi G pattern, came together perfectly. I made it up as per the pattern. The only adjustment I made was to reduce the size of the sleeve cap, which is a mod I do to almost all big 4 patterns because I hate easing sleeves. I also possibly shifted the waist tie, but that was just because I’m not very good at marking pattern pieces and I just wing those details.

This dress has the right amount of swish and I just love the feel of this rayon.
I was concerned about how the collar would work, but I have been pleasantly surprised.

I really don’t think I could love this dress more and highly recommend this pattern, and the rayon from Blackbird fabrics. Till next time!

  • This really is a wonderful dress! Perfect fabric/pattern combination!

  • Sarah Timmins

That dress loves you! You look stunning in it. Great make.

  • You look gorgeous! I think I have this pattern, too, but haven’t sewn it up yet. You should tell us more about reducing sleeve cap size and whether you think this has any effect on the way the sleeve sits on your shoulder. Because if easing a sleeve isn’t really necessary, then why are sleeve caps designed the way they are if there’s an easier work around? I don’t know the answer to these questions but I’m very interested, since I too dislike easing in sleeves.

  • I can see why – it’s lovely!!!

  • It is a great pattern, looks great in that fabric!
